Switzerland will welcome the global Special Olympics movement in 2029 when the Special Olympics World Winter Games will take place in Switzerland from 10-17 March 2029. Around 3,700 delegation members, including 2,500 athletes and Unified partners and 700 coaches from more than 100 countries are expected to be in attendance.

The Games will be the largest humanitarian and sports event in the world and represent much more than just sporting competitions. They are a strong symbol of support for the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and for an inclusive society with equal access to sport, education, health and participation in all areas of life.

The opening ceremony will take place on 10 March 2029 at the Letzigrund Stadium in Zurich. The sporting competitions will be held in the canton of Graubünden: Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding in Arosa; Figure Skating, Short Track Speed Skating and Floorball in Chur; Cross-Country Skiing, Snowshoeing and DanceSport in Lenzerheide.

The sporting events will be complemented by the Switzerland-wide “Host Town Program,” which actively involves all regions.

During the event, approximately 13,000 people – athletes, coaches, family members, guests from abroad, volunteers and media representatives – will be on the move every day.
