Many of our athletes need an environment that opens the doors for them to participate in sport and leisure. It is thanks to these key people that people with disabilities can pursue their passion for sport and achieve the best that is possible in their sport – just like any other athlete.
Finding these key people, providing them with the necessary knowledge and then supporting and advising them in their role is at the heart of the new “Close up” project, which is one of the flagship projects of the 2029 World Winter Games. Detailed planning is currently underway with key partners so that we can start the first phase, the recruitment and training of new volunteers, in fall 2026.
These people, who dedicate their time to supporting others, are invaluable not only for us, but for many areas in Switzerland. Strengthening and supporting volunteers in this work and providing them with direct support in difficult situations is at the heart of this project, which we hope will also benefit many other social tasks in Switzerland beyond sport.
